About the Building
An Edwardian Gift to the Community
Treasure House (London) CIC is a therapeutic community rooted in Southwark. We provide wraparound education, emotional support, and structured programmes for young people aged 13–19 who cannot access mainstream schooling — alongside community cultural and wellbeing provision for all ages.
Our home is The Livesey Building, a Grade II listed Edwardian landmark at 682 Old Kent Road — bequeathed by philanthropist George Livesey in 1890. We are stewards of both the building and the community it was always meant to serve.
A Building Through Time
130 Years of Community Use
1890 – 1966
Free Public Library
George Livesey bequeathed the building to the Commissioners for Public Libraries and Museums for the Parish of Camberwell as a free public library — serving local residents for over 75 years.
1974 – 2008
Livesey Museum for Children
Southwark Council opened one of the UK's few dedicated children's museums here, running free hands-on exhibitions until budget cuts forced its closure in 2008 despite strong community support.
2012 – Present
Treasure House (London) CIC
Appointed preferred partners by Southwark Council in November 2012, Treasure House CIC operates as a therapeutic community — delivering alternative education, wellbeing support, and cultural programmes while stewarding the building's restoration.
